Practical notes
Head in the sun, feet in the shade: plant it 8 cm deeper than it sat in the pot and shade the root zone with a slab or a low shrub. Burying the crown also lets it regrow from below ground if clematis wilt strikes.
Knowing when to pick
Know your pruning group before you cut: early-flowering types are pruned right after they bloom, late ones hard in February. The wrong cut costs a whole season of flower.
Storing the crop
Leave the fluffy seed heads on over winter — they carry the plant visually until spring and shelter overwintering insects.
Crop rotation
No strict rotation group — still avoid replanting into the same soil year after year.
