When to plant Coriander
Calendar windows
Dates shift with your latitude — they are calculated from your local last-spring-frost date, not from a fixed calendar.
At a glance
Survives a light frost, not a hard freeze.
Practical notes
It bolts at the first hint of heat or root disturbance, so direct-sow into its final spot and sow again every fortnight. Look for varieties sold as slow-bolting or "leaf" coriander if you want the leaf rather than the seed.
Knowing when to pick
Cut leaves at 15 cm, before any flower stem appears. Once it bolts, let it run — the green seed is superb and the dry seed is the spice.
Storing the crop
Leaf keeps three days and does not dry well — freeze it. Seed dries easily and keeps its flavour for years.
Crop rotation
Rotate away from carrots and their relatives for 3 years to break the carrot fly cycle.
