Dates shift with your latitude — they are calculated from your local last-spring-frost date, not from a fixed calendar.

Takes frost; can go out weeks before the last one.
Practical notes
Direct-sow into stone-free soil — never transplant, and never add fresh manure, which forks the roots. Thin to 5 cm and cover with fleece against carrot fly.
Knowing when to pick
Scrape soil from a shoulder to check the width. Pull after rain or water the row first — dry ground snaps the roots off.
Storing the crop
Twist the tops off and layer in damp sand in a cool shed — they hold until spring. In mild winters simply leave them in the ground under straw.
Crop rotation
Rotate away from carrots and their relatives for 3 years to break the carrot fly cycle.
