Practical notes
Know which type you have, because the pruning is opposite: summer-fruiting canes are cut out right after harvest, autumn-fruiting are cut to the ground in February. Getting it backwards costs you the whole crop.
Knowing when to pick
A ripe raspberry slips off its plug with no pull at all โ if you have to tug, wait a day. Pick every other day at the peak.
Storing the crop
Two days in the fridge, in a shallow layer so they do not crush. They freeze beautifully spread on a tray.
Crop rotation
Permanent planting: never replant a rose-family plant straight into its own old site.
